On May 18, 2024, the Netherlands played Scotland in the first game of the Netherlands T20I Tri-Series 2024 at Sportpark Westvliet in The Hague. The Netherlands scored 167/8 in their 20 overs, setting a challenging goal. The Netherlands won by 41 runs after Scotland responded by scoring 126 runs before being bowled out in 18.1 overs.
Innings for the Netherlands:
Michael Levitt led the Netherlands with 39 runs off 28 balls, including five fours and one six, and anchored the innings. Scott Edwards provided 24 runs off 19 balls, and Max O’Dowd supplied 27 runs off 22 balls. Scotland’s bowlers presented difficulties for the middle order, as both Sybrand Engelbrecht and Vikramjit Singh scored 15 runs apiece. The squad scored 167/8 because the lower tier was unable to put up much of a fight.
Innings for Scotland:
George Munsey spearheaded Scotland’s chase with a brilliant 72-run knock off 44 balls that included four fours and six sixes. The remaining batting order, though, had trouble forming alliances. Calum MacLeod added 14 runs, while Matthew Cross scored 15. Scotland scored 126 runs because the middle and lower order were unable to build on Munsey’s strong start.
Important Performances:
Vivian Kingma of the Netherlands won Player of the Match for his outstanding use of the ball, capturing three wickets for 22 runs in his four overs.
With two wickets apiece, Brad Currie and Safyaan Sharif were Scotland’s most impressive bowlers.
In summary:
With contributions from all around the lineup and a particularly strong showing by Kingma, this game demonstrated the Netherlands’ depth in both batting and bowling. Although Munsey’s spectacular innings was clearly relied upon by Scotland, their failure was caused by the other batting order’s lack of assistance. The remainder of the tri-series started off well thanks to the Netherlands’ all-encompassing performance.
